David Karchner grew up in the Midwest loving sports and the outdoors. He participated in Track, Soccer, Swimming and Skiing in high school, going to State in swimming. He was also involved in the National Honor society and the Boy Scouts He attended Church regularly and was part of the youth group. This is where he learned about giving back to those in need.
David has had a passion for drawing and design since he was a little boy, going through many sketch pads. He particularly enjoys designing living and working space that is enjoyable to be in and functional. This and his passion for mountain sports like Skiing, climbing, fishing and hiking led him to move to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado and study Environmental Design (Architecture), earning a Bachelor’s Degree. CU developed one of the first programs in the nation that focused on renewable energy such as solar, wind and geothermal. Passive solar and building orientation were key factors as well. David still has a passion for making the most of what nature has to offer in his designs.
David enjoyed college and learned a lot. He volunteered as a Representative of Student Government, Program Council, and as Recruiter for new students. Upon graduation Denver area there was little work in Architecture so David and a couple of design buddies formed a construction framing company and learned a lot of how to build things properly. This was the beginning of David’s passion for Entrepreneurship and creating new business concepts. He moved to the mountains to teach skiing one of his passions and built condos and houses. He started a graphic design business using more of what he learned in college.
David continued his Entrepreneurial ways by starting other businesses such as an Environmental Remediation business in order to put people to work and help the environment removing toxic materials from building such as Asbestos, Lead and Mold. The company also did Demolition so that buildings could be remodeled of replaced. He also continued to volunteer with Kiwanis club going on to be President for two years, as well as being a member of the Chambers of Commerce in the communities he lived in.
David trained with an award second generation custom home builder buying Invision Homes. We built many beautiful amazing homes shutting down in 2010 after the market crash, but keeping his Contractors License current knowing he would get back to doing what he loves. The result of that is Apex Custom Builders which is a woman owned company David works for now. The company does Additions, Basement finishes, Custom Homes, Decks, Fix and Flips, Outdoor Space, Remodels (kitchens, bathrooms, etc.) and utilizes sustainable design. David enjoys working with clients to design, build or create their dream homes from scratch or utilizing their current property. He is still active in the outdoors in beautiful Colorado.
